Samlesbury Hall – Fun Dog Show May7th, 2012

Photos from the Show

Dog portraits by Critterstudio: Dog dressed as Godzilla

It’s nice to be invited back – it means we did a great job last year, so it was very nice get a message from Angela inviting us to cover the dog show again this year. the weather was a lot kinder than last time, though it did still rain on and off during the afternoon, but it didn’t keep the visitors away and it wasn’t always easy for spectators to get a good view of what was going on in the arena.

Cutest Puppy

There was the usual mixture of cutest puppies, handsomest dogs, and waggiest tails as well as my favourite – the fancy dress. So if you want to see all of our pictures then visit our gallery page

Westmoreland Country Fest – 29th May 2011

Another early start as Duarte and myself headed off up the M6 to Crooklands at Milnthorpe and the show ground for the Westmoreland County Show. Today, was the Westmoreland Country Fest with pies, crafts, music and other entertainment. Amongst the entertainment was a jazz band, a pets corner (with the world’s smallest breed of sheep – and they were tiny) along with some dog shows and terrier racing – the events we’d been engaged to photograph.

It was raining when we set off. It was raining when we arrived and the wind was getting stronger. A heavy overcast, meant the light levels were not too good though a lot better than during our visit to Samlesbury Hall a few weeks ago. The wind was also a bit problematic, making our long lenses a little tricky to hold still.

The Companion Dog show started at 11:30 and resumed after a 20 minute break at 1:00. Terrier racing started at 12:00 and the terrier show, in a separate ring from the companion dogs began at 1:30 so it was a little tricky keeping on top of everything. Good job there were two of us.

Sun came out mid-afternoon – if you look at the pictures in the gallery you’ll be able to see when because all the colours got so much brighter.

All over just after 4:00 and a quick dash to the pie tent to get something for tea – not much left though, and all the bakers were packing up. Still I got a half price steak pie which was so much better than a Hollands, packed solid with meat and with really tasty pastry.

Then home to an evening of sorting through the day’s images. I came home with around 700 and Duarte over 1000. But don’t worry there’s nowhere near that many in the gallery. I’ve reduced mine to around 200 and Duarte is, as I write, still editing his and they should all appear in the gallery within a day or two.

Many thanks to Westmoreland County Show and Christine Knipe for allowing us access to the arenas.

Salmesbury Hall Fun Dog Show 15th May, 2011

Well it started raining just after we set off up the M6 to Salmesbury Hall. We’d never visited this wonderful location before and were very impressed with the beauty and architecture of this wonderful old building. It’s definitely on our list of places to visit (on a day when we’re not working). When we arrived the rain was getting harder, the sky overcast and the weather & light could not have been much worse for day photographing an outdoor event. Still, professionals that we are, waterproofs on, we got on with the job and despite the weather we had a fantastic day. Met loads of wonderful people and their dogs and, despite the awful weather, managed to get some really good shots which you can see if you go to our gallery page where you can order prints in a variety of sizes and have them delivered directly to your door from the printers within a few days.

Best in Show

One of the highlights of the Show was a demonstration by Mellor Dog School where they demonstrated how even difficult dogs can be trained to an exceptionally high standard. The best bit for me though was when the ‘criminal’, dog clamped to his arm by its teeth, swung the dog around and the dog still hung on – all four feet in the air – rather reminiscent of a circus act.

And then just before the competition for Best in Show, was the Fancy dress. The owners showed some real talent, not only for design, but also for humour. The Bride & Groom walked away with first prize.

Don’t forget to visit the Gallery and have a look a the rest of the pictures.

A most enjoyable day.

Alvanley & Manley Fun Dog Show 2nd May, 2011

Organiser Karen Ingram of Caren’s K9 College invited CritterStudio to attend the Alvanley & Manley Fun Dog Show yesterday as the event’s Official Photographers.

The weather was glorious (though not so good for photography) with bright sunshine and blue skies all day long. When we arrived at 11:00 there was a dog agility event in full swing with jumps, a weave and a tunnel. The dogs and their owners were queueing up to have their turn while Karen was carefully noting their times to complete the course. We naturally got to work straight away capturing the fun of the event and the clear pleasure that most of the dogs were showing. Though one or two appeared to think they knew a quicker way around the course than the official one.
